"OPERATION FORGET ME NOT" Military Care Package Effort

Here's an email I received regarding a care package our school sent out recently. Thanks to all for your donations and continued support of those serving our country. :) Ms. Wrobleski

I’d like to give a thank you to your school, Nicole and Girl Scout Troop #816 for the cookies you have sent us. The US and Foreign Troops of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) really enjoyed the cookies. A big thank you for sending us this small joy in Baghdad.

Air Freshenr Mistaken for Candy

Parents/Guardians please be advised that the poison control center has issued a warning regarding an air freshner marketed as "Fruit Bomb". This product is packaged in a colorful foil pouch with fruit pictures. It has resulted in three children being taken to emergency rooms in the Buffalo, NY area. Children have mistaken the product as candy and have eaten it. Any questions, or to report an incident contact the NJ Poison Control hotline @ 1-800-222-1222. Be safe, see you soon. Mrs. Simpson

The New School Year

As the new assistant principal at Valley Road School, I am very excited to join this excellent staff for the upcoming school year. Together, we will make this a super year and most importantly, provide a quality education for our students. -Mr. Burns

8th Grade Class Officer Elections

8th graders interested in running for the class officer positions of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary or dance committee chairperson should see Mrs. Snyder for a permission form. All speeches and posters must be approved by Mrs. O'Neill and/or Mrs. Snyder. Important dates to remember:

Nomination/Permission form due: Friday, September 19^th

Speeches due: Monday, September 22^nd

Speech practice: Wednesday, September 24^th

Election assembly: Friday, September 26^th period 8

Voting: Friday, September 26^th period 9

Nurse's Notes

Parents just a heads up. We have two cases of strep in the building, and I have already sent home many children with stomach as well as respiratory symptoms. It is ONLY September, looks like a long hard fall/winter is upon us. Please Please Please, if your child is ill keep them at home, as a reminder children should remain at home until they are diarrhea, vomit, and fever free (without medication) for 24 hours. It is important that you reinforce proper handwashing at home along with a balanced diet, 8-10 hours of sleep per night, exercise, plenty of fluids, and covering mouths when coughing, sneezing, yawning. Sports Physicals

Any child in grades 6-8 planning on participating in school sports ,(boys/girls basketball, cheering, volleyball) need to have a physical for this school year in order to participate. For physical forms, have your child pick one up from the nurse. They should have been in the summer packet. Physicals are due in the nurse's office NO LATER THAN November 1, 2008. thank you! 6-8th Grade Halloween Dance

NOTE: The date for the Halloween Dance has been changed to October 24th, 2008, from 7-9 pm in the school cafetorium. Parents please be prompt in picking up your child(ren) at 9 pm. Students will not be allowed in the building before 6:45. Any 8th grade parents interested in helping with donations for this 8th grade fundraiser should contact Mrs. O'Neill, Mrs. Snyder or Mrs. Thomas. Thank you.

Camping Trip Deposit Due Friday, October 24th

Sixth grade deposits are due to reserve our three day stay. Please see Mrs. Fehir or Miss Pipher for details.

8th Grade Washington, DC Deposit Due

A letter went home today regarding a deposit for Washington, DC. The deposit of $50 is due by Friday, October 31st. If your child did not bring the letter home, please contact Mrs. Snyder for another one - tsnyder@stanhopeschools.org

7th GRADE BOSTON TRIP: General Information

Greetings! A letter with all of the introductory information is being sent home with 7th grade students today! Please return the PRELIMINARY INFORMATION form by 10-30 to Mr. Fran. We are excited about coordinating the trip. It's an educational experience your child will always remember and an adventure we will all thoroughly enjoy!

WEAR YOUR CAP TO SCHOOL DAY - THURS., OCTOBER 23rd

Thursday, October 23rd, is "Wear Your Cap to School Day". This day is to support children that are coping with and battling cancer. With a $1 donation, students are able to honor these children by wearing their favorite caps to school. Money raised is used to purchase hats for kids battling cancer. ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE

Tuesday, November 4th, the 8th Grade Class of 2009 will be holding an ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE from 8:00am - 3:00pm. There will be various homemade baked goods for sale. Come out to support your favorite candidate and our 8th grade class!

YEARBOOK CLUB

Are digitally adept? Handy with a cam? Do you have an eagle eye for typos? Then Yearbook Club is the place for you. Come to an informational meeting at recess on Thursday, November 20 in the Computer Lab with Mrs. Snyder and Ms W. There will be cookies available!

Family Portraits Are Coming December 5 and 6! Reserve your spot now by contacting Mrs. Henry.

It's that time of year again to have a beautiful photograph taken of your family! Contact Mrs. Henry to reserve an appointment on Friday, Dec. 5 between 5:00pm and 8:30pm or Saturday, Dec. 6 between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Pictures will be taken digitally, so you may view them at the school on Monday, Dec. 8 in the afternoon or evening and order the prints you love. Holiday photo cards will be offered as well. All photographs will be delivered to the school within 2 weeks. If you would like to see the quality of photos, stop by school and look at the notebook on the display table in the front hallway. The Yearbook Club will meet in the Computer Lab with Mrs. Snyder and Ms. W. on 12-1 & 12-15 from dismissal to 3:35.

7th GRADE BOSTON TRIP: DEPOSIT DUE TUES. 11/25

Greetings! We must secure accommodations (hotel, bus, etc.) therefore a $50.00 non-refundable deposit needs to be submitted by Tuesday, November 25th. Please send a check made out to Stanhope School and forward it to Mr. Fran. If you have already sent in funds because you were paying ahead, you don’t need to send in additional funds unless you want to. The funds you have already sent in will be used toward the non-refundable deposit. A receipt and confirmation email will be forwarded to you.
